Confessions! I'm not shy

I am going to ignore the laser light show going on around me and try to write something intelligible. And I meant that literally. The artist strapped a laser pointer to a remote control car, turned off all the lights and is now firmly establishing himself as the "fun parent." There are squeals of rapture and flashing lights and little electronics buzzing around my feet, so please forgive any grammatical errors.
The question on this bleak, gray, wintry day is:

What is something that people often get wrong about you?

I love this question. Very thought-provoking. I do not, as a rule, go around feeling misunderstood. I try to be very open and honest so what you see is what you get. Pretty much.
There is one little discrepancy.
When people describe me they use the word "sweet" 99% of the time. That is a scientific poll, by the way.
(Pause to swivel chair out of path of rampaging family)
And I think that's fair. I am friendly and I love people and I love to make the people around me happy. Generally sweet, right? But there is this little misconception that I am that sweet girl; the one in the corner who is quiet and shy and demure. They imagine I never raise my voice above a Snow White trill. (I wish)
I am, however, not shy at all. I love people. I have no respect for my own personal space. I'm not afraid to talk to a stranger or hug a nice woman at the grocery store or scoop up your children and give them kisses like they are my own. I don't mind speaking to a crowd or a throng or a multitude (yes, those are all very distinct things) or a single person. I just love people.
And as for demure- I actually have a huge sense of humor. I can't go through a day without laughter. My favorite subject for a good joke is myself, but I will gladly utilize the Artist, the Cowgirl or the Dancer for a punchline. We laugh at ourselves a lot around here. I love it when they impersonate me. I am looking forward to a really good roast someday.
The first time people really get to know me they often widen their eyes in surprise as if to say, "I don't know whether to laugh because I think you just teased me and you're supposed to be sweet." Don't worry- they get used to it fast.
And besides, I'm sweet enough to get away with it.
:)

  1. You are definitely sweet enough to get away with just about anything you would say! I miss your funny comments that catch people off guard. I have a blog too...it's private so not many people comment on it so I've been thinking about giving it up. But if you want an invite on the off chance I might update it again, send me a message on fb with your email address! Love you guys :)
