Playing dress-up, Tapper Style

The Dancer found her Halloween costume at the back of the closet (where I keep them to avoid Halloween fervor in July) and wanted, no scratch that- needed- to play dress up.
Since I've been so busy with writing deadlines I try to make up for it with added enthusiasm.
She experienced transports of delirious joy when I asked if she wanted to get out her make-up kit and make it official.
So this is how we play dress-up Tapper-style:

1. get out the Halloween costume you've been saving all year so you can break off a piece and stain it before Halloween ever arrives.

2. Pick the most impossibly garish eye shadow colors and slather them generously

3. text the following picture to your little sis who will then text back and ask:

Why do you have a full-fledged Cleopatra outfit?
I replied and told her I can't believe she doesn't. What does she wear on dress-like-a-historical-figure family night?
Desdemona is overdone and Boudicca is just tacky...

Free Kindle Touch Giveaway

I love spreading the love! Because my friends and readers and complete, total strangers took the time to read and vote for On Little Wings in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition, I want to give back.
How can I thank you for supporting my literary efforts? How about I give you a way to carry around thousands of your favorite books in the palm of your hand?
I'm giving away a Kindle Touch!
But this really isn't about me being nice- It's about me being completely incapable of paying you back for your kindness to me.
Consider this a very inadequate thank you!

How to Enter:
This contest is open to anyone in the U.S.A or to international entries willing to cover international shipping.

If you are nervous about pre-ordering OLW, Amazon offers a price guarantee. If it goes on sale for a better price before it is released, you get the lowest price.
As Little would say- "You're gonna do it eventually, so you might as well get it over with!"

Oatmeal brain

I am in the middle of a editing deadline and my brain is producing words at roughly the same rate that oatmeal reproduces.
Symptoms of this strange attack are: glassy stares, fatigue, repetitive answers like "yes, yes, fine, fine" when asked if we can adopt a mountain gorilla.
Causes include excessive heat, water and noise.
I know how I developed this brain condition.
The problem isn't a virus. The problem is this:
And this:
It is summer and we are having lots and lots of togetherness. Coloring with chalk, riding bikes, going swimming, losing teeth, hanging out at the barn, messing up the house (a lot) and escaping the heat at bad children's movies. (Not talking about Brave- that was fun)
So I have hired a sitter to take my children far away and leave me to the quiet of my keyboard, just a couple of hours a day.
Last night the Artist saw my state of advanced wilting and oatmeal brain, took pity on me and took the girls for a five mile bike ride to get ice cream.

He sent me this picture.
It made me laugh out loud.
And helped me feel less like oatmeal.
And made me realize that they aren't the problem at all.
They give me oatmeal brain. They plunder and pillage my home. They make life really hard.
And then they do this and I laugh until I forget all those things.
What a face!!!
